I Want to hear the sea

Earth and Ceremony presents I Want to Hear the Sea as part of the NW New Works at On the Boards. I Want to Hear the Sea is an opera about a fallen angel seeking an escape from immortality and finding meaning in the infinite absurdity of life. The performance premiered as part of the NW New Works Festival, a showcase of fully produced 20 minute new and experimental works from Northwest performers.

"Earth and Ceremony's 'I Want to Hear the Sea' seemed to stun the audience with its power and beauty."

Libretto (excerpt)

Our myth is born,
formless but striking.

It sings of unceasing fate,
a decree of the gods.

A hope awakened will plummet down
and our myth, provoked by the gods,
returns down.
Sinking and in silence.

Held there in the depths
where light can reach nothing.
A descent of trials for nothing attained
and boundless burdens await.

And there, despair becomes conscious.

Our myth is born.
